<p>Wellensittiche sind sehr soziale Tiere und sollten niemals alleine gehalten werden. In der Natur leben sie in Schwärmen, und auch in der Heimhaltung brauchen sie mindestens einen Artgenossen, um glücklich zu sein. Ein einsamer Wellensittich kann schnell depressiv werden oder Verhaltensstörungen entwickeln.</p>



<p>Neben dem typischen Körnerfutter brauchen Wellensittiche eine abwechslungsreiche Ernährung. Frisches Gemüse wie Karotten, Gurken oder Salat versorgt sie mit wichtigen Vitaminen. Obst darf gelegentlich gegeben werden, sollte aber wegen des hohen Zuckergehalts nur in Maßen gefüttert werden. Auch frische Kräuter wie Petersilie oder Basilikum sind eine tolle Ergänzung zum Speiseplan.</p>

<p>Freiflug ist essenziell für die Gesundheit der kleinen Vögel. Ihr Käfig sollte groß genug sein, aber selbst der beste Käfig ersetzt nicht die Möglichkeit, täglich außerhalb des Geheges zu fliegen. Beim Freiflug sollte der Raum vogelsicher sein – offene Fenster, giftige Pflanzen oder heiße Herdplatten können gefährlich werden. Mit genügend Bewegung bleiben Wellensittiche fit und ausgeglichen.</p>
